I hate wasting food. Rather than allowing food to rot, I have to become an Iron Chef sometimes, and think of some way of salvaging the food. Sometimes I perform miracles, and sometimes my creations end up in the trash anyway. Regardless of how many times I’ve overcooked the fish, under baked the cookies, or made something that was just inedible, those few miracle moments in the kitchen made those half-baked attempts worth it.
The ideas in your brain are analogous to the food in your fridge. If all you do is come up with good ideas, but don’t get them cooking, your ideas will just rot in your brain. Stop hoarding your ideas. Get your ideas out of your head, and create something with them. Chop them up, fry them up, bake them, or just serve them raw. But whatever you do, don’t let your good ideas go to waste.
Now, maybe this is the Asian in me, but I believe meals are not meant to be eaten alone. For some reason, food tastes better when it is shared. As such, good ideas are meant to be shared. Ideas end up serendipitously transforming into something unexpected the instant you share them. There are agencies, companies, collectors, and consumers who are starving for good ideas. Nourish them.
As I said, I hate wasting food. I hate wasting good ideas even more. Ideation and creativity, like cooking, takes practice. The more you do it, the better you’ll get at it. Even if your ideas are only half-baked, it is better to make the attempt to get your ideas out there than to allow your ideas to rot. Get cooking.
